Follow The Directions

01

Step

Carefully slice the cauliflower into 3 or 4 "steaks" about 1-inch thick. Remove the core and any loose leaves. Reserve the florets that break off during slicing. (Prep time: 5 minutes)

02

Step

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sear the cauliflower steaks until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Add the reserved florets and water to the skillet. Cover and steam until the cauliflower is tender. (Cook time: 15-20 minutes)

03

Step

While the cauliflower steams, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a separate skillet over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion until fragrant and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until softened and lightly browned, about 8-10 minutes. (Prep time: 2 minutes. Cook time: 13-15 minutes)

04

Step

Preheat your oven's broiler and position the rack about 6 inches from the heat source. (Prep time: 2 minutes)

05

Step

Arrange the steamed cauliflower steaks and florets on a baking sheet. Top with the sautéed onion-mushroom mixture, followed by slices of Havarti cheese. (Prep time: 3 minutes)

06

Step

Broil in the preheated oven until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Watch carefully to prevent burning! (Cook time: 2-3 minutes)

For a vegan option, omit the Havarti cheese or substitute with a vegan cheese alternative.
Serve these Cauliflower Steaks with a side of quinoa or couscous for a complete and satisfying meal.
Experiment with different cheeses! Gruyere, fontina, or even a sharp cheddar would be delicious.
Add a sprinkle of fresh herbs like thyme or parsley after broiling for an extra touch of flavor.
