Recipe View Prepare the Watermelon Bowl (20 minutes): With a large, sharp knife, carefully remove the top quarter of the watermelon. Using a melon baller or spoon, scoop out the watermelon flesh, removing as many seeds as possible. Leave approximately 1/2 inch of watermelon flesh lining the inside of the rind. Repeat this process with the cantaloupe and honeydew, discarding the rinds. Store the scooped fruit separately in the refrigerator to maintain their crispness.

Recipe View Make the Lemon Zest Syrup (10 minutes): In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in the grated lemon zest. Allow the syrup to cool completely. This step can be done in advance.

Recipe View Assemble the Fruit Bowl (15 minutes): In a large bowl, gently combine the chilled watermelon balls, cantaloupe, honeydew, mandarin oranges, pineapple chunks, strawberries, and grapes. Drizzle the cooled lemon zest syrup over the fruit mixture and toss gently to coat evenly. Carefully transfer the fruit mixture into the prepared watermelon bowl. If there is excess fruit that does not fit, set it aside – you can use it to refill the bowl later.

For a festive touch, use cookie cutters to create fun shapes out of some of the melon slices.
If you prefer a less sweet fruit bowl, reduce the amount of sugar in the syrup or omit it altogether.
Add other fruits such as blueberries, kiwi, or mango to customize the bowl to your liking.
Chill all of the fruits for at least 30 minutes before assembling for the best taste.
