Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a small saucepan, whisk together the sambal oelek, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, and minced garlic. Heat over low heat until warmed through and the sugar is dissolved, about 5 minutes. Set aside. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Place the broccoli florets in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on High for 2 minutes to partially cook them. Add the olive oil, salt, and pepper; toss to coat evenly. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Arrange the chicken nuggets on one half of a large baking sheet and spread the broccoli florets on the other half. (2 minutes)

05

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the chicken nuggets are heated through and golden brown and the broccoli is tender-crisp. (20 minutes)

06

Step

Transfer the baked chicken nuggets to a large bowl. Drizzle the prepared sauce over the top and toss gently until the nuggets are evenly coated. (3 minutes)

07

Step

Serve the General Tso's chicken and roasted broccoli over cooked white rice. Garnish generously with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

For extra crispy broccoli, skip the microwaving step and roast for a few minutes longer. Keep an eye on the chicken to prevent burning.
Adjust the amount of sambal oelek to suit your spice preference. A little goes a long way!
Feel free to substitute other vegetables for the broccoli, such as bell peppers, snap peas, or carrots.
If you don't have light brown sugar, you can use regular brown sugar or even a touch of honey.

The sauce is a little too sweet for my taste. Next time, I'll reduce the brown sugar slightly.
