Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare the Cabbage: Remove any damaged outer leaves. Halve the cabbage through the stem, quarter it, remove the core, and thinly slice. (Prep time: 5 minutes)

02

Step

Sauté Aromatics: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add olive oil and butter. Once melted, add onions and sauté until translucent and lightly browned (3-4 minutes). Add garlic and cook until fragrant (30 seconds).

03

Step

Cook the Cabbage: Add cabbage to the skillet, mixing well with the onions. Cook, stirring frequently, until tender and lightly browned, without burning (13-16 minutes). If the cabbage dries out, add a splash of water.

04

Step

Finish and Serve: Drizzle apple cider vinegar over the cabbage, stir well, and cook for 1 minute. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve hot with a wedge of fresh lemon.

For a richer flavor, try using brown butter instead of regular unsalted butter.
A pinch of caraway seeds added with the onions brings an earthy depth to the dish.
If you like a little heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes along with the garlic.
This dish pairs well with roasted meats or as a topping for polenta.

I added a bit of Dijon mustard with the vinegar for extra tang. Great recipe!

This was so easy and delicious! My family loved it, even the kids who usually don't like cabbage.
