Follow The Directions

01

Step
20 mins

Combine the rice and water in a saucepan, and bring to a boil. (2 minutes)

02

Step
5 mins

Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, until rice is tender and the water has been absorbed. Set aside.

03

Step
20 mins

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). (10 minutes)

04

Step
1 hrs 15 mins

Heat a large skillet over medium heat. (2 minutes)

05

Step

Add the bacon, and brown on each side. (3 minutes)

06

Step

Add the onion, garlic and green peppers to the skillet, and cook until soft, stirring frequently. (5 minutes)

07

Step

Mix in the sausage, and cook until hot, then pour in the tomatoes. Cook just until heated through. (5 minutes)

08

Step

Stir in the cooked rice and spaghetti sauce. Season with Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Transfer to a large casserole dish, and cover with a lid or aluminum foil.

09

Step

Bake for 1 hour in the preheated oven, then remove the lid, and cook for an additional 15 minutes.

For a richer flavor, consider using smoked paprika in addition to Italian seasoning.
Feel free to experiment with different types of sausage, such as Andouille for a spicier kick.
If you don't have stewed tomatoes, diced tomatoes with a pinch of sugar can be substituted.
Leftovers taste even better the next day!
