Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a small bowl, create the magic: Whisk together the paprika, dark brown sugar, chili powder, cumin, salt, black pepper, oregano, sugar, white pepper, and cayenne pepper. This harmonious blend will be the soul of your pulled pork. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Generously massage the spice rub all over the pork roast, ensuring every inch is coated. Wrap the seasoned roast tightly in a double layer of plastic wrap. Allow the flavors to meld and deepen in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours, or preferably overnight. (10 minutes + 3 hours refrigeration)

03

Step

Unwrap the marinated pork roast and place it in the bottom of a slow cooker lined with a slow cooker liner. Add the water and liquid smoke to the slow cooker. Cover and cook on Low until the pork is incredibly tender and easily pulls apart with a fork. This usually takes 8 to 10 hours. (1 minute + 8-10 hours cooking)

04

Step

Carefully transfer the cooked pork roast to a cutting board. Discard the cooking liquid. Using two forks (or your impeccably clean fingers), shred the pork into delectable, thin strands. Remove and discard any excess fat. (15 minutes)

05

Step

Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker. Toss it with 1 cup of your favorite barbecue sauce, ensuring every strand is lovingly coated. Cover and continue cooking on Low until the pork is heated through, approximately 30 to 60 minutes. (5 minutes + 30-60 minutes cooking)

06

Step

Serve the succulent pulled pork with the remaining 1 cup of barbecue sauce. Offer it on toasted buns for classic sandwiches, or pile it high on plates alongside your favorite sides. Enjoy the fruits of your labor! (5 minutes)

For an even deeper flavor, consider searing the pork roast in a hot skillet before placing it in the slow cooker.
Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to suit your desired level of heat. A pinch more can add a delightful kick!
Feel free to experiment with different barbecue sauces to find your perfect match. From tangy vinegar-based sauces to sweet and smoky varieties, the possibilities are endless.
