For a richer flavor, consider using brown sugar instead of white sugar. If you don't have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to 1 ¼ cups of milk. Feel free to experiment with other dried fruits or nuts in addition to or instead of the raisins. To prevent the raisins from sinking to the bottom of the bread, toss them with a tablespoon of flour before adding them to the dough. Serve warm with a generous pat of butter or a dollop of homemade jam.

Nov 2, 2024My first time baking soda bread and it was a success! I didn't have caraway seeds, so I used fennel seeds instead, and it was delicious.

May 6, 2022The buttermilk and sour cream make this bread incredibly moist. It's a great alternative to traditional yeast bread.
