For an even richer flavor, use brown butter instead of regular butter. To brown the butter, melt it in the saucepan over medium heat, swirling occasionally, until it turns a nutty brown color and emits a toasted aroma. Let it cool slightly before adding the other ingredients. To toast the pecans and coconut, spread them separately on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until lightly golden and fragrant. Watch them carefully to prevent burning. If the frosting becomes too thick, you can add a tablespoon or two of milk to thin it out. Conversely, if it's too thin, cook it for a minute or two longer, stirring constantly. Best served within 2-3 days of frosting.

Jan 9, 2024I've tried many German Chocolate Cake frosting recipes, and this one is by far the best. The stovetop method makes it so creamy and smooth.
