Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Lightly coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray. (2 minutes)

02

Step

In a shallow dish, whisk the egg. In a separate shallow dish, combine the cornmeal, flour, panko bread crumbs, salt, and pepper. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Dip each tomato slice into the beaten egg, allowing any excess to drip off. Then, dredge the tomato in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring both sides are fully coated. Gently shake off any excess breading. (10 minutes)

04

Step

Arrange the breaded tomato slices in a single layer in the prepared air fryer basket, being careful not to overcrowd. Lightly mist the tops of the tomatoes with cooking spray. (3 minutes)

05

Step

Air fry for 8 minutes. Flip the tomatoes, spray any dry spots with cooking spray, and cook for an additional 4 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. (12 minutes)

06

Step

Transfer the fried green tomatoes to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Repeat with the remaining tomato slices. (5 minutes)

For best results, use firm, unripe green tomatoes. They should be hard to the touch.
Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket! Cook in batches to ensure even cooking and maximum crispiness.
Feel free to adjust the seasoning to your liking. A pinch of cayenne pepper adds a nice kick.
Serve immediately for the crispiest texture. These are delicious on their own or as a side dish.
