Follow The Directions

01

Step
10 mins

In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the beef is no longer pink and the onions are translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat. (5-7 minutes)

02

Step
2 mins

Stir in the tomato sauce, chili powder, dried oregano, and ground cinnamon. Mix thoroughly to combine. Add the drained kidney beans and water. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for at least 30 minutes, or up to an hour, stirring occasionally. Add more water if the chili becomes too thick. (30-60 minutes)

03

Step
1 mins

While the chili is simmering, cook the ziti pasta according to package directions in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain well. (8-10 minutes)

04

Step
1 hrs

To serve, place a generous portion of the cooked ziti pasta in bowls. Top with the chili and sprinkle with shredded Cheddar cheese. Serve immediately.

For a richer flavor, consider using a combination of ground beef and ground pork or Italian sausage.
Add a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder to the chili for a deeper, more complex flavor.
Feel free to adjust the amount of chili powder to your preferred level of spiciness.
Other toppings that would be delicious include sour cream, chopped green onions, or a dollop of guacamole.

Super easy to follow, and the chili was so flavorful. I added a can of diced tomatoes for extra texture.
