For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of garlic powder to the potatoes while mashing. These cakes can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator until ready to bake. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time. Experiment with different cheeses! Gruyere or cheddar would also be delicious. If you don't have a ring mold, simply form the potato mixture into patties by hand.
