For an extra layer of flavor, toast the walnuts lightly before adding them to the batter. If you don't have walnuts, pecans or almonds would also work well. A caramel frosting complements the spices in this cake beautifully, but a simple dusting of powdered sugar is also lovely. To keep the cake moist, store it in an airtight container at room temperature.
