Earthy collard greens and sweet cabbage are slowly simmered with smoky bacon and aromatic onions, creating a comforting and deeply flavorful Southern-inspired side dish. Follow The Directions

01

Step
10 mins

In a large skillet over medium heat, fry the bacon with the onion until the bacon is crisp and the onions are translucent, about 10 minutes.

02

Step
5 mins

Stir in the chopped collard greens, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon of the greens seasoning; cook and stir for 5 minutes, allowing the greens to wilt slightly.

03

Step
5 mins

Add in the darker chopped cabbage leaves, and cook and stir until almost tender, about 5 minutes.

04

Step
10 mins

Stir in the remaining cabbage; season with salt, black pepper, sugar, and the remaining greens seasoning. Stir well; cover and cook until tender, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching, about 10 minutes.

For a vegetarian option, omit the bacon and use 2 tablespoons of olive oil instead. You can also add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat.
Ensure to stir frequently to prevent sticking and burning.
Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Some people prefer a sweeter flavor, while others prefer a more savory one.
