Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. (1 minute)

02

Step

Add the finely chopped onion and sauté, stirring occasionally, until softened and translucent. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Stir in the rinsed rice, golden raisins, chicken broth, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil. (3 minutes)

04

Step

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly, and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and all the liquid has been absorbed. (15-20 minutes)

05

Step

Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it rest, covered, for 5 minutes to allow the rice to fully absorb any remaining moisture. (5 minutes)

06

Step

Fluff the rice with a fork and gently stir in the toasted slivered almonds. Serve immediately.

Toast the slivered almonds in a dry pan over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until lightly golden and fragrant. This enhances their flavor and adds a delightful crunch.
For a richer flavor, use homemade chicken broth. You can also substitute vegetable broth for a vegetarian option.
Adjust the amount of salt and pepper to your preference. Remember that the chicken broth may already contain sodium.
Feel free to experiment with other dried fruits, such as cranberries or chopped apricots, to customize the flavor profile.
If you don't have slivered almonds, chopped walnuts or pecans would also be delicious.

I accidentally burned the almonds, so be careful when toasting them! Otherwise, fantastic recipe.
