For a richer flavor, use melted butter instead of softened butter. If you don't have raisins, dried cranberries or currants make a lovely substitute. These biscuits are best served warm, ideally within a few hours of baking. Experiment with adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the flour mixture for a hint of spice.
