For an extra layer of flavor, try adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the batter. If you don't have walnuts, pecans or almonds work well too. To prevent the top of the bread from browning too quickly, tent it with foil during the last 20 minutes of baking. The bread is best stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week. It can also be frozen for longer storage.
