Follow The Directions

01

Step

Begin by creating a luscious balsamic reduction. In a small saucepan, pour in the balsamic vinegar. Simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it reduces to about 2 tablespoons and achieves a thick, syrupy consistency (approximately 5 minutes). Remove from heat and transfer to a small container. Refrigerate to cool and thicken further.

02

Step

Prepare the ladybug wings by slicing each grape or cherry tomato in half lengthwise. Then, carefully cut a vertical slit down the center of each half to create the wing shape. Quarter the black olives to form the ladybug heads.

03

Step

Arrange the mozzarella slices on a serving platter, patting them dry with a paper towel to prevent sogginess. Top each slice with a fresh basil leaf, followed by a tomato half (the wings). Position an olive quarter at the top of the tomato to represent the ladybug's head. Repeat this process with the remaining tomatoes and olives.

04

Step

Retrieve the balsamic reduction from the refrigerator. Using a toothpick, carefully apply small dots of the reduction onto the grape tomato halves to mimic the ladybug's spots. Repeat for each ladybug.

05

Step

Serve the Ladybug Caprese Bites immediately. Offer the remaining balsamic reduction, a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, a sprinkle of sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper for added flavor and personalization.

For an extra touch of flavor, marinate the mozzarella slices in olive oil, garlic, and herbs for 30 minutes before assembling.
If you can't find a mozzarella log, use mozzarella balls (bocconcini) cut in half.
Use a good quality balsamic vinegar for the best flavor in the reduction.
Make the balsamic reduction ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week.
