Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Generously grease a 9-inch tube pan. (5 minutes)

02

Step
20 mins

Cut bread dough into approximately 2 1/2-inch pieces. Flatten half of the dough pieces into small circles. Place a cube of cream cheese in the center of each flattened circle. Fold the dough around the cream cheese, pinching the seams to seal completely. Roll all filled and unfilled dough pieces into smooth balls. (20 minutes)

03

Step
10 mins

In a medium bowl, combine granulated sugar and cinnamon. Roll each dough ball in the cinnamon-sugar mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated. Set aside. (10 minutes)

04

Step
8 mins

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine butter and brown sugar. Bring to a gentle boil, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 1 minute, stirring occasionally. (8 minutes)

05

Step
10 mins

Arrange half of the filled and unfilled dough balls in the prepared tube pan, followed by half of the toasted walnuts and raisins (if using). Drizzle half of the brown sugar syrup evenly over the mixture. Repeat with the remaining dough balls, walnuts/raisins, and syrup. (10 minutes)

06

Step
40 mins

Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the gorilla bread is golden brown and the dough is fully cooked through. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean. (40 minutes)

07

Step
10 mins

Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a serving platter. Serve warm, encouraging guests to pull apart the individual dough balls. (10 minutes)

For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the brown sugar syrup.
Toasting the walnuts enhances their nutty flavor and adds a delightful crunch.
If you don't have raisins on hand, dried cranberries or chopped dates make excellent substitutes.
Ensure the cream cheese is very cold for easier handling.
Cover the top loosely with foil during the last 15 minutes of baking to prevent over-browning, if needed.

Next time I'll try adding a sprinkle of sea salt on top for a sweet and salty twist.
