Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Prepare a large casserole dish with cooking spray. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a large bowl, lightly combine the ground beef, finely chopped sweet onion, Italian seasoned bread crumbs, 3 tablespoons of beef broth, milk, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper. Divide the mixture into 5 equal portions and shape them into oval patties. (10 minutes)

03

Step

In a wide, shallow dish, season the flour with salt and pepper to taste. Gently dredge each patty in the seasoned flour, ensuring they are lightly coated on all sides. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Heat vegetable oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the patties in the hot oil until browned completely on both sides, about 3 to 5 minutes per side. Remove the patties from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease. (15 minutes)

05

Step

In a separate bowl, whisk together the remaining beef broth, cream of mushroom soup, salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper until smooth and well combined. (5 minutes)

06

Step

Arrange the drained patties in the prepared casserole dish. Spread the thinly sliced sweet onion evenly over the patties. Pour the mushroom soup mixture over the patties, ensuring they are completely covered. (5 minutes)

07

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until the patties are no longer pink in the center and the sauce is bubbly, about 45 minutes to 1 hour. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of a patty should read at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C). (60 minutes)

For a richer flavor, try using a combination of beef broth and red wine in the gravy.
If you don't have cream of mushroom soup, you can substitute it with a homemade mushroom sauce or another cream-based soup.
Serve these Salisbury steaks with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice for a complete and satisfying meal.

I've made this recipe several times, and it's always a hit. I sometimes add a pinch of garlic powder to the beef mixture for extra flavor!

I used ground turkey instead of beef and it still turned out great! A lighter, healthier option.

I added some sautéed mushrooms to the gravy, and it was amazing!
