Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a large bowl, gently toss the pitted and chopped plums with 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of white sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, and ground cinnamon. Ensure the plums are evenly coated. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Transfer the plum mixture to a 9-inch square glass baking dish, spreading it in an even layer. (2 minutes)

04

Step

In a separate bowl, combine 0.5 cup of all-purpose flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, melted unsalted butter, and salt. Mix with your fingers or a fork until the mixture forms coarse crumbs. (5 minutes)

05

Step

Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the plum base, ensuring the plums are mostly covered. (2 minutes)

06

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until the topping is golden brown and the plum filling is bubbling, approximately 45 minutes.

For a richer flavor, consider browning the butter for the topping before melting it.
Add a pinch of ground ginger or cardamom to the plum mixture for a warm, spicy twist.
If you don't have Italian prune plums, other varieties like Damson or even regular plums will work well. Adjust sugar to taste based on the sweetness of the plums.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a dollop of Greek yogurt.
