Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare the Dredging Station: In a shallow bowl, whisk the egg for about 30 seconds until slightly frothy. In a separate shallow bowl, place the seasoned matzo meal. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Coat the Tempeh: Dip each tempeh strip into the beaten egg, ensuring it's fully coated. Then, dredge the egg-soaked tempeh in the matzo meal, pressing gently to adhere. Ensure the tempeh is completely covered in the matzo meal for maximum crispiness. (10 minutes)

03

Step

Fry to Golden Perfection: Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Carefully place the breaded tempeh strips into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 3-5 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. (10 minutes)

04

Step

Toss in Buffalo Sauce: Remove the fried tempeh from the skillet and transfer it to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. In a large bowl, toss the crispy tempeh tenders with the Buffalo wing sauce until evenly coated. Add more sauce to taste, depending on your desired level of heat. (5 minutes)

05

Step

Serve and Enjoy: Serve the Buffalo Tempeh Tenders immediately with blue cheese dressing for dipping.

For extra crispy tenders, double-dip the tempeh in the egg and matzo meal.
Adjust the amount of Buffalo wing sauce to your preference. For a milder flavor, use a mild Buffalo sauce or mix it with a little butter.
These tenders are best served immediately while they are still crispy. However, you can keep them warm in a low oven (200°F) for up to 30 minutes.
Consider serving with celery sticks and carrot sticks for a complete Buffalo-style experience.

The blue cheese dressing is a must! It really complements the Buffalo sauce.

Baking them instead of frying worked perfectly. A much healthier option!

  • Agustina Bashirian

Be careful not to overcook the tempeh, or it will become dry.

  • Elda Gusikowski

The tempeh was a bit bland on its own, so I recommend marinating it as suggested in the tips.

  • Geraldine Hamill

I used panko breadcrumbs, and they came out super crispy.

These are a game-day staple at our house now!
