Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare the Broccoli: Place a steamer insert into a saucepan and fill with water to just below the bottom of the steamer. Cover, place over high heat, and bring the water to a boil. Add the broccoli to the steamer insert, cover, and steam until bright green and slightly tender (about 4 minutes). Transfer the broccoli to an 8-inch square baking dish and set aside.

02

Step

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

03

Step

Sauté the Vegetables: While the broccoli is steaming, heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until fragrant (about 3 minutes). Stir in the carrot, celery, salt, and pepper and continue cooking until the vegetables begin to soften (about 5 minutes).

04

Step

Create the Tomato Sauce: Add the diced tomatoes and chopped green olives to the skillet. Cook and stir over medium-high heat until the sauce thickens slightly (about 5 minutes). Stir in the maple syrup and season again with salt and pepper to taste. Cook, stirring occasionally, for an additional 3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

05

Step

Assemble and Bake: Pour the tomato sauce over the steamed broccoli in the baking dish. Evenly distribute the crumbled goat cheese and grated Parmesan cheese over the top.

06

Step

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven until the cheese is melted and begins to brown (about 20 minutes).

For a richer flavor, try using roasted garlic instead of minced garlic.
If you don't have maple syrup, honey or agave nectar can be used as a substitute.
Feel free to add other vegetables to the bake, such as zucchini or bell peppers.
A pinch of red pepper flakes can add a touch of heat to the dish.
