For a spicier kick, use a hotter variety of dried red chile pepper, or add a pinch of cayenne pepper along with the paprika and cumin. Bissara thickens as it cools. If you are making it ahead of time, you may need to add a little water when reheating. Feel free to adjust the amount of water to achieve your preferred consistency. Some people prefer a thicker soup, while others like it thinner. A swirl of harissa paste adds both heat and complex flavor to the dish. Serve with crusty bread for dipping.
