Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a large saucepan, whisk together the ketchup, lemon juice, water, brown sugar, garlic powder, olive oil, paprika, chili powder, honey, salt, dry mustard, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and hot sauce. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Place the saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring frequently to prevent sticking. (10 minutes)

03

Step

Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded together beautifully. (45-60 minutes)

For a deeper, smokier flavor, try using smoked paprika. The type of hot sauce you use will greatly impact the flavor of the sauce. Use a vinegar-based one for some tang, or a pepper-based sauce for a spicy kick. Adjust the amount of honey and brown sugar to customize the sweetness to your liking. Freshly squeezed lemon juice will always taste better than the bottled variety.
Try adding a tablespoon of molasses for a richer, more complex flavor.
