Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare the stuffing according to package directions. Once prepared, transfer to a large bowl and set aside. (Approximately 5 minutes)

02

Step

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Ensure the oven rack is positioned to accommodate a large roasting pan. (Approximately 10 minutes)

03

Step

In a medium saucepan, bring 5 cups of water to a boil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, diced celery, and crumbled sage. Boil for 10 minutes, or until the onion is softened and translucent. (Approximately 15 minutes)

04

Step

Pour the cooked onion, celery, and sage mixture over the prepared stuffing in the bowl. Mix thoroughly until well combined. (Approximately 5 minutes)

05

Step

Rinse the whole turkey under cold water, inside and out. Pat it completely dry with paper towels. (Approximately 5 minutes)

06

Step

Loosely fill both the body and neck cavities of the turkey with the stuffing mixture. Do not pack the stuffing too tightly, as it will expand during cooking. (Approximately 10 minutes)

07

Step

Place the stuffed turkey in a large roasting pan. Roast in the preheated oven for 3 to 3 1/2 hours, or until the internal temperature of the thigh meat reaches 180 degrees F (80 degrees C) and the stuffing registers at least 165 degrees F (75 degrees C). Use a meat thermometer to ensure accurate readings. (Approximately 180-210 minutes)

08

Step

Let the turkey rest for at least 20 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a more tender and flavorful bird. (Approximately 20 minutes)

For extra flavor, consider adding sautéed mushrooms or chopped apples to the stuffing mixture.
To prevent the turkey from drying out, baste it with pan drippings every 30-45 minutes during roasting.
If the turkey skin starts to brown too quickly, loosely tent it with aluminum foil.
Ensure the stuffing reaches a safe internal temperature to prevent foodborne illness.
