Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

Break wafers coarsely into a 2 1/2-quart clear glass serving bowl. Sprinkle with liqueur; top with layers of fresh fruit.

02

Step
2 mins

Pour cold milk into a medium bowl; add dry pudding mix. Beat with a wire whisk until well blended, about 2 minutes. Refrigerate until pudding starts to thicken.

03

Step
8 mins

Add melted chocolate to thickened pudding in the bowl; beat with a wire whisk until well blended. Gently stir in 1/2 of the whipped topping until incorporated. Spoon over fruit; top with remaining whipped topping.

04

Step
30 mins

Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 24 hours before serving. Store leftover trifle in the refrigerator.

For a more intense orange flavor, consider zesting an orange and adding the zest to the wafers before sprinkling with liqueur.
Feel free to experiment with different types of fruit based on what's in season. Raspberries, peaches, or mandarin oranges would also be delicious.
When melting the white chocolate, use a double boiler or microwave in 30-second intervals to prevent burning.
To prevent the wafers from becoming too soggy, assemble the trifle no more than a few hours before serving.

I accidentally used regular vanilla pudding instead of instant, and it still worked out fine, just a bit denser.
