Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a large bowl, cream together the granulated sugar, softened butter, and shortening using an electric mixer until light and fluffy. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Beat in the almond extract until well combined. (1 minute)

04

Step

Gradually add the all-purpose flour, kneading the dough until it forms a smooth, cohesive ball. Be careful not to overmix. (8 minutes)

05

Step

Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls and place them about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. (10 minutes)

06

Step

Using the handle of a wooden spoon or your finger, gently make a small well in the center of each cookie. (5 minutes)

07

Step

Sprinkle colored sugar, sprinkles, and/or diced guava paste into the wells of the cookies. (4 minutes)

08

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 16 to 20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown. (16-20 minutes)

09

Step

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. (10 minutes)

For a richer flavor, try using browned butter in place of regular softened butter.
Feel free to experiment with different extracts, such as vanilla or lemon, to customize the flavor of the cookies.
These cookies are best stored in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain their crumbly texture.
If you don't have guava paste, you can substitute with other types of jam or preserves.
