Follow The Directions

01

Step

Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package directions, about 8 minutes, or until al dente. Reserve about 1/2 cup of the pasta water before draining. (8 minutes)

02

Step

While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute, being careful not to burn it. (1 minute)

03

Step

Add the chopped Swiss chard to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the stems are tender and the leaves are wilted, about 5-7 minutes. If the pan becomes dry, add a splash of the reserved pasta water to help steam the chard. (7 minutes)

04

Step

Add the drained spaghetti and capers to the skillet with the Swiss chard. Toss to combine, adding a little more of the reserved pasta water if needed to create a light sauce. Season with lemon juice, salt, and freshly ground black pepper to taste. (2 minutes)

05

Step

Serve immediately, sprinkled generously with grated Parmesan cheese.

For a richer flavor, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes along with the garlic.
If you don't have Swiss chard, spinach or kale would also work well in this recipe.
To elevate the dish, top with toasted pine nuts or breadcrumbs for added texture.
Use fresh lemon juice; the bottled stuff doesn't compare!
Do not overcook the garlic.
