Follow The Directions

01

Step

Cook ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until well-browned, about 10 minutes, breaking it up into small crumbles as it cooks. Drain excess fat.

02

Step

Combine beef, apples, brown sugar, brandy, raisins, suet, walnuts, dried mixed fruit, mixed fruit peel, lemon juice, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves in a large cast-iron or other heavy skillet over medium heat. Stir until thoroughly combined and sugar has dissolved; bring to a boil.

03

Step

Reduce heat to a simmer; cook until flavors have blended and filling is thickened, about 1 hour. Stir occasionally.

04

Step

Use mincemeat pie filling as desired.

For a vegetarian option, replace the ground beef with an equal amount of cooked lentils or chopped mushrooms.
If you don't have suet, you can substitute with butter or vegetable shortening, but the flavor will be slightly different.
Feel free to adjust the spices to your preference. Some people enjoy adding a pinch of ginger or cardamom.
The mincemeat filling can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or frozen for longer storage.
