Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the cranberries, water, sugar, cinnamon sticks, and salt. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer until the cranberries begin to burst and the sauce thickens slightly. (10 minutes)

03

Step

Stir in the chopped onion, raisins, apple slices, and pear slices. Continue to cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the fruits soften and the chutney reaches your desired consistency. (15 minutes)

04

Step

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the toasted slivered almonds and lemon zest. (2 minutes)

05

Step

Carefully remove the cinnamon sticks. Allow the chutney to cool completely before serving. The flavors will meld and intensify as it cools. (60 minutes)

For a deeper flavor, try using brown sugar instead of white sugar.
A splash of orange juice or Grand Marnier can add a lovely citrus note.
Toast the almonds in a dry pan over medium heat until fragrant and lightly golden for enhanced flavor.
The chutney can be made several days in advance and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The flavors will continue to develop over time.
Serve chilled or at room temperature.

I was a little hesitant about the celery, but it added a really nice savory element. Will definitely make again.
