Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Beat in the egg and almond extract until well combined. (2 minutes)

04

Step

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined. (3 minutes)

05

Step

Stir in 1/2 cup of the chopped candied cherries. (2 minutes)

06

Step

Press the dough evenly into an ungreased 9x13-inch baking pan. (3 minutes)

07

Step

Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup cherries and the crushed candy-coated chocolates evenly over the top of the dough. Gently press them into the surface. (2 minutes)

08

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown. (30-35 minutes)

09

Step

Remove from the oven and let cool completely in the pan before icing. (60 minutes)

10

Step

In a small bowl, whisk together the sifted confectioners' sugar and warm water until smooth and a drizzling consistency is reached. (3 minutes)

11

Step

Drizzle the icing evenly over the cooled bars. Let the icing set before cutting into squares. (15 minutes)

For best results, use high-quality candied cherries and chocolates.
Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Feel free to experiment with other extracts, such as vanilla or lemon.
Add a few drops of red and green food coloring to your icing for an extra festive touch.
