Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add penne and cook until al dente, about 11 minutes.

While the pasta cooks, heat 2 tablespoons butter and 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Add the flaked salmon and cook until heated through, about 3 minutes.

Drain the pasta and add it to the skillet with the salmon mixture. Stir in the fresh Italian parsley and lemon zest. Add the lemon juice and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Add the remaining olive oil and butter and toss until the pasta is glossy and well coated.

For a richer flavor, consider using brown butter instead of regular butter.
Add a splash of white wine to the skillet after sautéing the onion and garlic for an extra layer of flavor.
Garnish with extra lemon zest and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for a touch of heat.
