Follow The Directions

01

Step
2 mins

Engage the 'Sauté' function on your Instant Pot. Add bacon and cook until crisp, about 5 minutes. Add sausage, onion, and garlic; cook until the onion is translucent, about 3 minutes. Pour in chicken broth, scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the pot to deglaze.

02

Step
4 mins

Stir in rinsed black beans, bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Ensure all ingredients are well combined. Cancel the 'Sauté' function. (Total: ~10 minutes)

03

Step
1 mins

Secure the Instant Pot lid, ensuring the pressure valve is set to 'Sealing'. Select 'High Pressure' and set the timer for 40 minutes. Allow 10-15 minutes for the Instant Pot to reach full pressure. (Total: ~55 minutes)

04

Step
1 mins

Once the cooking cycle is complete, allow for a natural pressure release (NPR) for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, carefully release any remaining pressure manually. (Total: ~20 minutes)

05

Step
1 mins

Open the Instant Pot and remove the bay leaves. Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper as needed. Serve hot and enjoy! (Total: ~5 minutes)

For a vegetarian option, omit the bacon and sausage. Add 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika and a splash of liquid smoke for a smoky flavor.
To thicken the beans, mash some of them against the side of the pot after cooking.
These beans can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
