Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step
10 mins

Prepare the ham: Using a sharp knife, score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern. Make shallow cuts, about 1/4 inch deep, across the ham's surface. Place the ham in a large roasting pan fitted with a rack. (10 minutes)

03

Step
10 mins

Prepare the glaze: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the honey, brown sugar, red wine, and freshly ground black pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved and the glaze is smooth and slightly thickened, about 8-10 minutes. (10 minutes)

04

Step
45 mins

Glaze and bake: Brush the ham generously with the prepared honey glaze, ensuring it coats the entire surface. Reserve about half of the glaze for basting. Bake in the preheated oven, basting with the reserved glaze every 10 minutes, until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the ham registers 145 degrees F (63 degrees C), approximately 30-45 minutes. (45 minutes)

05

Step
15 mins

Rest and serve: Remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for at least 10-15 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a more tender and flavorful ham. Carve and serve immediately. (15 minutes)

For a deeper flavor, consider adding a tablespoon of Dijon mustard to the glaze.
If the ham starts to brown too quickly, tent it loosely with aluminum foil.
The leftover ham can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days and makes excellent sandwiches or additions to soups and salads.
