Follow The Directions

01

Step

Freeze butter: Place 3/4 cup butter into the freezer for 1 hour. After that, cut into small cubes. (1 hour)

02

Step

Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).

03

Step

Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Cut in butter: Using a pastry blender or your fingertips, cut the cold, cubed butter into the flour mixture until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. (8 minutes)

05

Step

Add buttermilk and cinnamon chips: Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir gently until the dough is just moistened. Be careful not to overmix. Fold in the cinnamon baking chips. (5 minutes)

06

Step

Shape the scones: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead the dough 10 to 12 times until it just comes together and is no longer sticky. Divide the dough in half. Pat or roll each portion into a 7-inch circle. (10 minutes)

07

Step

Prepare for baking: Brush the tops of the dough circles with melted butter. Sprinkle each circle evenly with 1 tablespoon of sugar. Cut each circle into 6 wedges. Separate the wedges slightly and place them on an ungreased baking sheet. (7 minutes)

08

Step

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 13 minutes, or until the scones are lightly golden brown. (10-13 minutes)

09

Step

Cool and serve: Let the scones cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving warm. Enjoy! (5 minutes)

For best results, ensure all ingredients, especially the butter and buttermilk, are very cold. This will help create a tender and flaky scone.
If you don't have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to a liquid measuring cup, then filling the cup with milk to equal 1 cup. Let it stand for 5 minutes before using.
Be careful not to overmix the dough, as this will result in tough scones. Mix just until the dough comes together.
Feel free to experiment with different types of baking chips, such as chocolate chips or dried cranberries.
These scones are best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat gently before serving for the best texture.
