Step

In a medium bowl, whisk together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, dark brown sugar, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper until well combined. Set aside. (5 minutes)

In a large bowl, gently combine the mixed baby greens, sliced pears, dried cranberries, toasted pecans, and cubed Havarti cheese. (10 minutes)

Just before serving, pour the balsamic vinaigrette over the salad and toss gently to coat all ingredients evenly. (2 minutes)

Garnish with toasted sliced almonds and serve immediately. (1 minute)

For best results, use ripe but firm pears to prevent them from becoming mushy when tossed with the dressing.
To toast the pecans, spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until fragrant and lightly browned. Alternatively, toast them in a dry skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently, until fragrant.
The balsamic vinaigrette can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Bring to room temperature and whisk well before using.
Feel free to substitute the Havarti cheese with another cheese of your choice, such as goat cheese, feta cheese, or blue cheese.
Add grilled chicken or tofu for a more substantial meal.
