For an even richer flavor, sear the flank steak in a hot skillet with a little oil before braising. Add sliced onions and carrots to the pan for extra flavor and a more complete meal. If the sauce is too thin after braising, remove the steak and simmer the sauce on the stovetop until it thickens to your desired consistency.
