Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and shredded Cheddar cheese. Season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Spoon the cheese mixture generously into each jalapeno half. (10 minutes)

04

Step

On a lightly floured surface, unroll the crescent dough and use a pizza cutter or knife to slice it into thin strips. (5 minutes)

05

Step

Wrap the stuffed jalapenos with the dough strips, creating a mummy-like appearance. Leave a small space near one end unwrapped to allow for the candy eyeballs. (20 minutes)

06

Step

In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and milk. In another bowl, combine the flour with a pinch of salt and pepper. Dip each wrapped jalapeno into the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour, ensuring it's fully coated. Place on the prepared baking sheet. (10 minutes)

07

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until the dough is lightly golden brown, approximately 15 to 20 minutes. (20 minutes)

08

Step

Remove from the oven and immediately press two candy eyeballs into the melted cheese on each mummy. Let cool slightly before serving. (5 minutes)

For a spicier kick, leave some of the jalapeno seeds in. If you prefer a milder flavor, be sure to remove all the seeds and membranes.
Make sure the cream cheese is properly softened before mixing; this will ensure the smoothest consistency of filling.
Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese in the filling; Monterey Jack or Pepper Jack would be delicious variations.
These poppers are best served warm, but can be reheated in the oven or microwave.

So easy to make, and they look so cute! My kids helped me wrap them.

  • Sadie Welch

The dough was a little tricky to work with, but the end result was worth it. I recommend using a very sharp knife to cut the strips.

I wish there was a video showing how to wrap the dough around the poppers.

Next time, I'll try using a different kind of filling, like a black bean salsa.

I made these with pepper jack cheese, and they were amazing! Thanks for the recipe!

I added a little garlic powder to the flour mixture, and it gave them a great flavor.
