Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8x2-inch square baking pan with Reynolds® Parchment Paper. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and allspice. Set aside. (3 minutes)

03

Step

In a separate medium bowl, cream together the brown sugar and softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes, or until light and fluffy. Add the egg and beat until well combined. Beat in the applesauce and vanilla extract. Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add in the flour mixture, mixing until just combined. Stir in the diced apple and peanut butter chips. (8 minutes)

04

Step

Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. (2 minutes)

05

Step

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. (40 minutes)

06

Step

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5 minutes. (5 minutes)

07

Step

Using the parchment paper overhang, carefully lift the cake out of the pan and place it on a wire rack to cool completely. (2 minutes)

08

Step

Once the cake is completely cool, transfer it to a cutting board using the parchment paper. Drizzle with the Peanut Butter Glaze. (2 minutes)

09

Step

Allow the glaze to set before slicing and serving. (15 minutes)

10

Step

Peanut Butter Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together ⅔ cup powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons creamy peanut butter, and 2 to 3 tablespoons of milk, adding milk gradually until you reach a thick, drizzling consistency. (5 minutes)

For a richer flavor, use brown butter instead of softened butter in the cake batter.
Feel free to experiment with different types of apples, such as Honeycrisp or Gala, for a slightly sweeter flavor.
If you don't have peanut butter chips on hand, you can substitute chopped peanuts or other nuts.
The peanut butter glaze can be adjusted to your desired sweetness and consistency by adding more powdered sugar or milk, respectively.
Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
