Follow The Directions

01

Step

Season tomato slices generously with salt and pepper. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Prepare three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with the buttermilk and eggs mixture, and a third with panko bread crumbs, cornmeal, garlic powder, and paprika. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Dredge each tomato slice in flour, shake off the excess, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally press into the cornmeal mixture, ensuring both sides are well-coated. (10 minutes)

04

Step

Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly brush the air fryer basket with olive oil to prevent sticking. (5 minutes)

05

Step

Working in batches, place the breaded tomato slices in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they don't touch. Brush the tops with olive oil. (5 minutes per batch)

06

Step

Air fry for 12 minutes, then carefully flip the tomatoes and brush again with olive oil. Continue cooking until they are crisp and golden brown, about 3-5 minutes more. (15-17 minutes)

07

Step

Transfer the fried green tomatoes to a paper towel-lined rack to drain and maintain their crispness. Repeat with any remaining tomatoes.

For extra flavor, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the cornmeal mixture for a subtle kick.
If you don't have buttermilk, you can make a quick substitute by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to 1/2 cup of milk.
Ensure the tomatoes are in a single layer in the air fryer basket to allow for even cooking and maximum crispness. Overcrowding will result in soggy tomatoes.
Serve immediately for the best taste and texture. These are delicious with ranch dressing, sriracha mayo, or a homemade remoulade sauce.
