Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a medium bowl, gently combine the ground sirloin, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into 4 equally sized patties. Wrap each patty individually in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld. (4+ hours)

02

Step

In a large skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté, stirring occasionally, until they are deeply caramelized and golden brown. This should take about 15 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium-low if the onions begin to brown too quickly. (15 minutes)

03

Step

Lightly coat a separate large skillet with cooking spray and heat over medium heat. Place the hamburger patties in the hot skillet and cook for approximately 3 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. After flipping the patties, top each with a slice of Cheddar cheese, allowing it to melt slightly. (6 minutes)

04

Step

Carefully transfer the cooked patties to 4 slices of the lightly toasted rye bread. Generously top each patty with the caramelized onions and spread 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard on each. Finish by topping with the remaining slices of rye bread. Serve immediately and enjoy!

For an even richer flavor, consider using a blend of ground sirloin and ground chuck.
If you prefer a sweeter onion flavor, add a pinch of sugar to the onions as they caramelize.
Experiment with different types of cheese, such as Gruyere or Swiss, for a unique twist.
Ensure the skillet is hot before adding the patties to achieve a good sear.
