Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

Place frozen spinach in a microwave-safe bowl. Add water, cover tightly with plastic wrap, and microwave on High, stirring occasionally, until heated through. (9-11 minutes)

03

Step

Transfer the cooked spinach to a colander and press firmly to remove as much excess moisture as possible. (2 minutes)

04

Step

In a saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter over medium heat. Add the drained spinach, softened cream cheese, water chestnuts, and garlic powder. Cook, stirring until the cream cheese is fully melted and the mixture is well combined. (5-7 minutes)

05

Step

Spread the artichoke hearts evenly across the bottom of a baking dish. Pour the spinach mixture over the artichoke hearts, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle bread crumbs over the top of the spinach mixture and dot with the remaining butter pieces. (5 minutes)

06

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until the casserole is heated through and the bread crumbs are golden brown. (20-25 minutes)

For a richer flavor, try using a blend of cheeses, such as Gruyere or Parmesan, in addition to the cream cheese.
Fresh spinach can be used in place of frozen. Sauté until wilted, then drain well before adding to the recipe.
To add a crunchy topping, mix the bread crumbs with melted butter and a pinch of garlic powder before sprinkling over the casserole.
This casserole can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to bake. Add about 10-15 minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.

The key is definitely squeezing out all the moisture from the spinach. Learned that the hard way the first time!
