Follow The Directions

01

Step

Press the Tofu: Wrap the tofu block in several layers of paper towels. Place a heavy object (like a cast-iron skillet or a stack of books) on top to press out excess water. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes, or up to an hour for best results. (30-60 minutes)

02

Step

Prepare the Marinade: In a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish, combine the soy sauce, chili sauce, ginger, and hoisin sauce. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.

03

Step

Marinate the Tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into 1/2-inch thick strips or cubes. Add the tofu to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or up to 4 hours for a more intense flavor. (1-4 hours)

04

Step

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet with cooking spray or a drizzle of olive oil.

05

Step

Bake the Tofu: Remove the tofu from the marinade, letting any excess drip off. Arrange the marinated tofu in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Discard the remaining marinade.

06

Step

Bake until Firm: Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, flipping the tofu halfway through, until it is firm and slightly browned. (30-35 minutes)

For an even deeper flavor, consider grilling the marinated tofu instead of baking. Grill over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes per side, until grill marks appear and the tofu is heated through.
Serve this spicy baked tofu with a side of wilted spinach, a fresh salad, or steamed rice for a complete and satisfying meal.
Adjust the amount of chili sauce to your preference for spice. If you prefer a milder flavor, start with 1 tablespoon and add more to taste.
