For extra richness, use brown butter in the cake batter. Simply melt the butter and cook until it turns golden brown and smells nutty, then let it cool slightly before using. If you don’t have cake flour, you can make your own by measuring out 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, removing 1 1/2 tablespoons, and replacing it with 1 1/2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Whisk together well. Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
