For an Indian-inspired twist, consider adding a pinch of cumin, curry powder, or nutmeg to the soup during the simmering process.
To elevate the flavor profile, sauté the onions and garlic in a tablespoon of olive oil before adding the other ingredients.
If you prefer a vegan option, substitute vegetable broth for chicken broth and omit the heavy cream or replace with coconut cream for a similar richness.
