Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare Ingredients: Gather all your ingredients and have them prepped and ready to go. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Sauté Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the chopped onion, leek, and minced garlic. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onion becomes translucent and softened. (8-10 minutes)

03

Step

Brown the Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until it's about halfway done and still slightly pink. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Spice Infusion: Season the beef mixture with ground cumin, ground cardamom, salt, and pepper. Mix well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed. Continue cooking until the beef is fully browned and crumbly. Remove the skillet from the heat and let it cool slightly. (7-10 minutes)

05

Step

Prepare the Paste: In a small bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour and water to create a thin paste. This will be used to seal the sambusas. (2 minutes)

06

Step

Assemble the Sambusas: Working with one spring roll wrapper at a time, fold it into a cone shape. Fill the cone with the prepared beef mixture, then close the top and seal it with the flour paste. Repeat this process until all the wrappers or filling are used up. (20-30 minutes)

07

Step

Fry to Golden Perfection: Heat oil in a deep fryer or a large saucepan to 365 degrees F (170 degrees C). Ensure there's enough oil to fully submerge the sambusas. Fry the sambusas, a few at a time, in the hot oil until they turn a beautiful golden brown. (3-4 minutes per batch)

08

Step

Drain and Serve: Remove the fried sambusas from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve hot and enjoy! (5 minutes)

For a vegetarian option, substitute the ground beef with lentils or a mixture of finely diced vegetables like carrots, peas, and potatoes.
Feel free to adjust the amount of spices according to your taste preferences. A pinch of cayenne pepper can add a nice kick.
Sambusas can be made ahead of time and frozen before frying. When ready to serve, fry them directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
Serve with a side of chutney or a yogurt-based dipping sauce for added flavor.
