Add 1 (28 ounce) can of crushed tomatoes, 1.5 teaspoons of kosher salt, and 0.5 teaspoon of ground black pepper. Stir well to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for at least 10 minutes, or up to several hours, allowing the flavors to meld together beautifully.
