Follow The Directions

01

Step
7 mins

Brown the Beef: In a large, heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.

02

Step
7 mins

Sauté the Vegetables: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the celery, mushrooms, onion, and green bell pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add the sautéed vegetables to the pot with the ground beef.

03

Step
5 mins

Build the Sauce: Stir in the whole tomatoes (crush them with your hands as you add them), tomato sauce, tomato paste, garlic, sugar, oregano, seasoned salt, Italian seasoning, and parsley. Pour in the red wine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.

04

Step
3 hrs

Simmer to Perfection: Bring the sauce to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded, 2-3 hours. The longer it simmers, the better it gets!

For an even deeper flavor, consider adding a bay leaf during the simmering process and remove it before serving.
A splash of balsamic vinegar at the end can add a wonderful depth of flavor.
Feel free to adjust the seasonings to your liking. Some people prefer a touch more sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes.
Serve over your favorite pasta and garnish with fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese.
