Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the green beans and apple cider. Cover securely with microwave-safe plastic wrap, leaving a small vent for steam to escape. Microwave on high for 5 minutes. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Carefully remove the plastic wrap, stir the beans gently, and return to the microwave. Cook until the beans are tender yet still slightly crisp, approximately 5 more minutes. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Using a slotted spoon, transfer the green beans to a warmed serving bowl. Reserve the cider reduction in the bowl for later use.

04

Step

Heat the olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the bacon bits and chopped onion. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onion is softened and lightly caramelized, about 5 to 10 minutes. (5-10 minutes)

05

Step

Pour the reserved cider reduction from the green bean bowl into the skillet with the bacon and onion mixture. Simmer gently, allowing the liquid to reduce slightly and the flavors to meld, about 5 minutes. (5 minutes)

06

Step

Spoon the bacon and onion mixture evenly over the green beans in the serving bowl. Season generously with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Serve immediately.

For an even more intense apple flavor, try using apple cider vinegar instead of apple cider in the reduction.
If fresh green beans are available, blanch them briefly in boiling water until bright green and crisp-tender before proceeding with the recipe.
Consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the bacon and onion mixture for a subtle kick.
