Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a large casserole dish, combine the thawed green beans, condensed cream of mushroom soup, 1/2 cup milk, sour cream, shredded Swiss cheese, half of the French-fried onions, garlic salt, soy sauce, and a generous grinding of black pepper. Mix thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are well incorporated. (10 minutes)

03

Step

Cover the casserole dish and bake for 30 minutes. Halfway through the baking time, check the consistency. If a creamier texture is desired, add a splash more milk. (30 minutes)

04

Step

Remove the casserole from the oven and evenly distribute the remaining French-fried onions over the top. Return the dish to the oven, uncovered, and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown and the casserole is bubbly and heated through. (15 minutes)

For an extra layer of flavor, try browning the mushroom soup in a pan before adding it to the other ingredients.
If you don't have Swiss cheese, Gruyere or Emmental are excellent substitutes.
Adjust the amount of garlic salt to your preference. A dash of onion powder can also add a nice depth of flavor.
To prevent the French-fried onions from burning, you can tent the casserole with foil during the last few minutes of baking.

The French-fried onions got a bit too dark, next time I'll add them later.
